Transforming Self, Transforming World

Single rooms are issued based on availability, and are on a first-come-first-serve basis. 
What’s the relationship between social justice and individual awakening? Is personal transformation separate from social transformation, or are they two sides of the same coin — two aspects of same path?  The highest ideal of the Western tradition has been to restructure our societies so that they are more socially just. The most important goal for Buddhism is to awaken and put an end to the dukkha (“suffering”) due to the delusion of a separate self. David will explore this relationship between individual transformation and social transformation, not just because they complement each other, but because each needs the other.

David Robert Loy is a professor, writer, and Zen teacher in the Sanbo Zen tradition of Japanese Zen Buddhism. He is a prolific author, whose essays and books have been translated into many languages. His articles appear regularly in the pages of major journals such as Tikkun and Buddhist magazines including Tricycle, Lion’s Roar, and Buddhadharma, as well as in a variety of scholarly journals. Many of his writings, as well as audio and video talks and interviews, are available on the web.
